Wearing Sandals in the Winter: Ocho Rios Jamaica Travel Guide

Beach Time in Ocho Rios Jamaica

When it gets really cold out, I pull out my sandals, and plan a trip to the sun and sands!!! This time we packed up and headed out to Ocho Rios Jamaica. The timing was perfect since it’s been 30 degrees and below in Utah, and the snow is taking over. Now, Jamaica has been on my bucket list since I was a kid (because everyone wants to go to Jamaica, right?), and I took this opportunity to check this one off of my bucket list.

In a matter of days, the flight was booked and the wheels were UP! I was feeling really excited about this trip for sure. Have you ever been super excited about a trip and felt like a kid again? You find yourself smiling and laughing simply because you’re on your way to a place you’ve always wanted to visit? You pack quicker than you normally do (you know before the day of the trip)? This was definitely me as I was heading to Ocho Rios.

Ocho Rios truly treated us like family. We touched down around 4:50 at the airport. Our car was waiting for us, and we grabbed our luggage and headed to the resort. It was a pretty seamless shift from the airport to the resort---which I loved by the way. I actually don’t enjoy the hustle and bustle of airports and transportation, and this one turned out perfectly. I was happy about that for sure.

I was craving some time to relax and refresh, and the resort was calling my name as soon as I walked in. The atmosphere was warm and embracing, and everyone seemed laid-back and helpful. That’s just what I need when I’m looking to relax. I went up to the suite, put my things away, and the balcony whispered my name. I stood out on the balcony for a while, overlooking the white sandy beaches, and I knew I’d made a great choice with Beaches Ocho Rios...sometimes you just know when you’re in the right place. And, this time, I knew this felt really good. The hotel was perfectly accommodating for the kiddos. There’s so much for them to do. Lots of water activities, golfing, and family-friendly parties at night. My little crew loves the water slides and music, so they enjoyed that stuff SO much!

I took a little R & R before dinner (we went to Neptunes for dinner...check it out here), and I barely wanted to get up up from my nap. The beds were super comfortable, and I was refreshed when I finally decided to get up and explore before dinner.

Here are a few things I did before dinner.

Let me just say this..the food in Ocho Rios Jamaica is amaze-balls!

Everything was sooooo good. Everyone was soooooo friendly. Authentic and delish. I loved the jerk chicken spots, and Rum Creme is my new favorite drink of all times. I even tried some fresh carrot juice, and I was impressed. Not to mention, the locals talked and shared their wisdom with me (this really made my heart full because I love to meet locals when I travel). Good food and good people makes the trip worthwhile.

The next day, we did some exploring. The horseback riding on the beach was the BEST! Who doesn’t love riding horses with the waves next to you? Well, I sure loved it. It was adventurous and relaxing at the same time. I’m not a professional at the horseback riding thing, but it turned out great. I’d sure jump back up there in a heartbeat.

I really could have stayed here for another 2 weeks, but work and home was calling me.

I’d take this trip to the Ocho Rios Jamaica anytime for any reason.

It was such a rejuvenating few days. My sandals got some good use on this trip, and I’m pretty happy about it.

Well, I have to get back to work now, and stop daydreaming about this super cool trip. Until next time...

”see yuh lata gyals”.
