Halloween Traditions Were Never my Thing until H Came Along.
Halloween traditions were never my thing until H came along.
I couldn’t get with the doom and gore represented, and I never liked the idea of taking candy from strangers. Once H grew older, I just couldn’t resist the opportunity to see her all dressed up. I mean, those little costumes are so freaking cute!
The older she became the more creative we were able to get with our costumes and Halloween traditions.
We only have 1 rule: no doom and gore.
We keep our Halloween traditions as positive as possible and stay clear of blood, or anything that mimics death.
A few years ago, we decided we would do a whole Halloween series. We have matching costumes, hire a makeup artist and a photographer, and pretty much shoot a full spread featuring me and my little mama. We’ve had so much fun coming up with concepts. Sometimes our costumes pieces came right from our own closets.
If you’re looking to have fun during Halloween and step things up a bit, here are a few fun ways to create your own Halloween Costume Series:
Decide on a theme that fits your child’s personality.
Pick through items found in your closet.
Head to your local consignment shop to find pieces that will take your costume to the next level.
Face makeup is key. Hire a makeup artist, or watch tutorials and get creative.
Capture the whole thing with your camera, or hire a photographer to create lasting memories.
Have fun! You’re not a professional so don’t try to be perfect. Just do the best you can, make sure your child is able to participate in the creation, and enjoy!
