Overcoming Overcommitment: I was Raised to Be a Woman of my Word.
I was raised to be a woman of my word. That was one thing that was extremely important to me. But, there came a point in my life when I fell off. I had a hard time keeping up with my commitments. I was often late for appointments, and even cancelled a couple of meetings at the last minute. This was not typical Destiney behavior. So you know your girl had to get it all the way together, real quick.
I did and little assessment and realized something major. I wasn’t just falling off, I was overcommitted. I was managing my life, H’s life, and the lives and services of my clients. I was also trying to be a great co-parent, friend, and mentor. I was seriously doing the most! I had to prioritize my life, put some boundaries in place, and get comfortable saying “no” to things that didn’t serve me.
If you find yourself unable to follow through,
No longer maintaining your commitments, running late all of the time, or canceling things at the last minute, it may be more than a classic case of falling off. You may be overcommitted.
Before you say yes to your next commitment ask yourself these questions:
3 Tips to Overcome Commitment
1. Do I have time?
2. Can I give 100% effort?
3. Would it be better, for all involved, if I just declined?
