There's No Joy in Settling
At the core of who I am, I am just a girl who decided to not settle. I find that settling in any aspect of my life makes me feel terrible. I found that not settling, in any area of my life, was the most freeing thing I could have ever done for myself.
Oilogic + The Kids Better Sleep Project
It's National Sleep Awareness Month, and it couldn't come at a better time for us. We believe in living a mindful life, but lately I was noticing that we were less mindful in certain areas. Namely, in our sleep habits. I always have a lot of projects going on, and it's the same for Honor. We both thrive on the go-go-go lifestyle and always like to be challenging ourselves to new things. I started to notice that we were both struggling to wind down at bed time.
Monday's Mom Crush: HEYMAMA || Amri + Katya
I'm so excited about this week's Mom Crush Monday, because it's double the fun and double the crushworthiness! Trust me when I tell you, these are two babes you want to get to know! Katya and Amri started HEYMAMA together to bring other women together. With that alone, you know these are two women I am here for; but they do so much more than bring women together... they build them up, and encourage them to achieve their greatest selves!
My Experience with CoolSculpting
Okay, I could do a happy dance! For two reasons, one because I'm in LOVE with the new that I've been going to recently and two because cool sculpting is not a gimmick or a joke. You guys! It. Really. Works! This is NOT a drill!
Brands We Love || Persil at Target
You guyyysss! My favorite store now has my favorite detergent! Persil ProClean is now available at Target nationwide! For real, this stuff is magic and has been restoring Honor's whites...(and protecting my sanity) since 2017. Okay, I know 2017 just started and yes, I just discovered this stuff, but I'm soooo glad I did!
Ways to Show Random Acts of Kindness + Love
Happy post-Valentine's Day, beauties! I absolutely love the day of love, don't you? I think I cried twice yesterday, out of overwhelming joy because of how happy everyone was. The love in the air was so beautiful to me. Why can't everyday be Valentine's Day? Love heals everything. It made me realize I can be giving more of myself too. I guess if it took Valentine's Day to make realize I can always love harder, then so be it!
7 Things Girls Without Fathers Want You To Know
I know I'm not the only one who has laid in bed at night, thinking of how life might have been different if my father had showed up in my life. Last night was one of those nights for me, and I started reflecting on how it has played a role in who I am today, and how maybe it's not what most people would automatically think of when they hear "fatherless daughter."
25 Mama + Babe Date Ideas
I don't know about you, but sometimes I just draw a total blank on ideas for entertaining Honor. I know I've heard a lot of other parents share the same struggle, so I decided to start writing down ideas and now I'm here to share them with you! Here are 25 dates to help you bond with your daughter!
My New Favorite Hobby: Skiing with Honor
I always said when I had H that I would have her partake in things that I never got to experience as a child. Would you believe that I've lived in Utah my entire life and I had never skied before? Listen, I'm not going to lie to you. I was okay with that fact. I was pretty intimidated by the idea of it, but you never know how much you could love something unless you try it.
How to Ramp Up Engagement on Your Social Media
It’s all about communication. I believe one of the reasons my audience has grown so quickly has been because I view each comment and private message like I would any other conversation in real life.
Three Ways to Stay Focused
As my workload increases, so does my awareness. I know that when I get busier, things can fall through the cracks and I don't want that to happen so I start taking extra steps to make sure it doesn't. The biggest way I do that is by leaving myself reminders in various places to stay focused. I hope these tips help you as much as they help me.
Winter Skin Care: Vaseline Intensive Care Cocoa Radiant
I get asked a lot about my daily beauty routine, and I can't stress enough how important keeping your skin hydrated is. Yes, a big part of that is drinking water throughout the day; however, especially in these cold winter months I have to do more to maintain healthy skin.
MONDAY'S MOM CRUSH: SAI || INTERVIEW WITH SCOUT THE CITY
I recently got the chance to sit down and chat with one of my favorite bloggers, Sai, from Scout the City and ask her a few questions! I was so nervous the first time I met her, but I realized quickly that she was so down to earth and approachable! She immediately felt like a friend, and I'm so happy to feature her as my Mom Crush Monday!
Three Must Have Bags for Every Mom
Cross body, cross body, cross body! Because when you have the babies, you can say, "look Ma, no hands!" All kidding aside, I never think a mama should have to compromise her style. And these three bags I'm about to show you are what bag dreams are made of and have you feeling like the queen you are.
Mom Crush Monday + SUP & DINE #CrushxDINE
I'm so excited for the arrival of 2017 and all of the fresh new projects I have coming up! One thing I really want to focus on in the new year are new habits for keeping the mind, body, and soul aligned. I'll be talking about how sitting down and eating together really helps a family bond later in the week, but in the mean time, I want to talk about the food.
Five Ways to Breathe Confidence into Your Children
The best thing besides love, you could give your child, is confidence. This is what it’s all about. Our goal as parents is to make our children into the best versions of themselves. To give them the best chance at living out their dreams, their goals, and their visions. That message has to start early on. We can’t expect them to hear a lifetime of no you can’t, and then get to being an adult and believe they can. I truly believe if we want our children to be confident, we have to allow them to be so from an early age.
My Wish for You
As New Years is quickly approaching, I’ve started reflecting on the past year. I would have to say 2016 has probably the best year of my life, besides 2012 when I welcomed my sweet H into the world. I cried when 2016 came in and I'll probably cry as it leaves. I read this statistic earlier, “60 percent of millennials say parenting is extremely important to their identity.” THIS. So much of this. As I’ve grown as a mother, I feel like I’ve become a better version of myself. And my focus on the future is for her. She’s everything, and 2017 is looking like the best year yet with her by my side.
GIRL TALK || PRETTY KITTY
Ladies, let’s get real. Like reallllly real. Let’s talk about our best girlfriend…. The elusive vagina. I know, when we talk about her it’s usually in hushed tones, but why? We all got one… so why do we act like it’s a bad word. VAGINA. There I said it loudly. You can feel comfortable now.
BRANDS WE LOVE || DOVE || LOVE YOUR HAIR
Ladies, let’s talk hair. There is so much chatter about what we need to be doing with our hair. Yes, I said that right. Society seems to think they should have a say in how we wear our hair. And what’s worse, is that we’ve totally normalized this. For some this pressure might come in the form of not being allowed to embrace natural hair in the work place; for others it might be pressure to dye over those hard earned grays to appear more youthful.
Gift Guide || DESTINEY + HONOR
Ho ho ho, there are 11 days to go! If you haven't finished your Christmas shopping yet, this is the post for you! Honor and I have come up with our guide to giving the very best of the best - our absolute faves from this year. We have seen a lot of great brands this year, but these ten could not be topped.
RAISING AN EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY DAUGHTER
Self-esteem building needs to start early on – well before your daughter hits high school. Yes, the social and emotional stresses of the teen years compound, making confidence-building a challenge. That doesn’t mean low self-esteem is waiting until adolescence to pop out. It’s building from a young age. This means you need to start reinforcing your child’s positive self-esteem from the beginning.
MONDAY'S MOM CRUSH: NYJA || FOUNDER || MOMS EPIPHANY
It's Monday, and you know what that means! I get to introduce you to an amazing mama I've been crushing on! This Monday is all about Nyja (rhymes with papaya) of Mom's Epiphany. Nyja is a 22 year old Rutgers University grad, the founder of Mom's Epiphany, a seeker of light, and one bad mamma jamma!
BRANDS WE LOVE || SOYOUNG INTERVIEWS MCM
I talk a lot about being mindful and living our best selves. Part of that, for us, is making sure we eat healthy even when we are on the go. Which is pretty much always. I recently discovered these So Young cooler bags and they have been such a life saver! When Honor and I are out and on our grind, which is always, we don't have to worry about hunger pains hitting and us reaching for unhealthy fast food options.
Movie Night with Honor
Last night, Honor and I sat down on the couch to watch a movie before bed. We turned on an American Girl Story: Melody 1963: Love has to Win. I wasn't prepared for the emotion I was going to feel watching it. Watching a little girl, Melody, try to navigate a world that tells her she doesn't belong because of the color of her skin, and her mother who never waivers in her graceful acts of raising her daughter surrounded by love despite these circumstances.
GIFT GUIDE || CHRISTMAS 2016 STOCKING STUFFERS FOR KIDS
You guys, I'm so excited for Christmas. I think this time of year should be stress free and full of happiness. The cheesy kind. Where you sings songs and wear silly sweaters and gaudy jewelry. But I'm also a realist and know that figuring out gifts for all of your loved ones can be such a chore. SO! I've created several gift guides to help make that process just a little easier!
5 Ways to Manifest Your Own Lane
Can we talk about the inspiration overload we see on a daily basis? The Instagram and blogging world are just FULL of beautiful images, captivating stories, and on-point styling. It’s easy to want to fall into line with these other images, and want to recreate them. But let me tell you something, honey, easy isn’t how success is made! If you want to be successful in creating your own brand, you have to create something that hasn’t already been done. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, there is no competition when you are manifesting your own lane.
Monday's Mom Crush: Marcia Leone || Creator + Founder || NotSoMumsy
Mondays are for Mom Crushes!
One of the main reasons I started MomCrushMonday was to celebrate motherhood! I love gathering inspiration and motivation by other mothers just doing their thang! I'll be doing an on-going series interviewing and featuring mamas that I can't help but crush on!
HOW TO CO-PARENT WITH SOMEONE WITH FUNDAMENTAL BELIEF DIFFERENCES
I talk a lot about having a community of women in your corner. I’ve learned how essential it is to have good people to back you up, build you up, and also keep you in check when you’re going off the deep in. When I talk to my girlfriends about co-parenting and relationships, I think these characteristics are even more important.
PLAY DATE: BABIES WHO BRUNCH | MCCARREN HOTEL | BROOKLYN, NY
Have I mentioned how much I love New York? There's something so magical about this city. I know, it's so cliche, but there really is a reason that everyone says it. It's like a magnet that keeps drawing me back in. I knew when I launched Travel is the New Play Date that I wanted New York to be one of the first locations we traveled to.
4 Ways To Raise Mindful Children
As mamas we know that our babies always are our first thought, so let’s start this conversation with them! Something I try to live by, and raise my daughter with, is being mindful. There is something to be said for being mentally and physically aware of yourself and your actions. It creates a sense of purpose, as your actions and thoughts are geared towards something in particular and are less likely to wander into distraction.
A Little Bit of Magic
Do you know what I miss most about childhood? It's not the naps. The naps are a close second. No, what I miss the most is the magic. Do you remember it? Everything was just a little extra. Less jaded. More enchanting. When we were kids we were able to become completely engrossed in the magic and excitement of holidays. That's something I really want to keep alive for my girl as long as possible.
The Day I Found Out I Was Going To Be A Mother
The day I found out I was going to be a mother, I was at a lunch meeting with my best friend. I remember sitting there with her and trying to focus, but my eyes kept getting really heavy and her words all seemed to float together. After I told her that I was sorry and that I needed to cut our lunch short because I needed to go lay down, I started thinking about how this wasn’t the first day I’d been too tired to finish what I needed to do.
The Importance Of Mental Health
Can we talk about something people don’t like to talk about for a minute? Let’s talk about the importance of mental health, and how the vast majority of people will suffer from some sort of depression, anxiety, or other severe issue at some point in their life. Let’s also talk about how most of those people will feel ashamed of those struggles, and try to hide them from everyone, even themselves. If you are currently struggling with any sort of mental health problems, please, please do not feel ashamed.
#MCM Blog Launch Party
Yesterday was the day! BLOG LAUNCH DAY! I'm so excited, you guys! I can't celebrate this moment without acknowledging that I couldn't have gotten here without you though! So thank you! Thank you to all of you who have been there since day one encouraging me to take this step, and thank you to everyone who has joined this little #mcm community we have along the way! I love you all!
Hey, babes! *deep breath* This is real life. After insta-blogging for about a year now, I’m taking the plunge into serious blogger status. Errr, at least traditional blogger status… you know I can’t always be serious. So welcome! Thanks for being here! For those of you who haven’t gotten to know me yet through my instagram life, @momcrushmonday, let me take a moment to introduce myself...
Glamping at Conestoga Ranch
Let me tell you guys a little secret. Camping is overrated… GLAMPING on the other hand, is right up my alley. You guys. You have to go glamping. I'm a changed woman. But wait, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let me tell you how this epiphany started. Like all good things, it started with my daughter H, and a promise I made to her before the snow had even melted off the grass. H loves the outdoors, and while snow won’t stop her from getting out there and having fun, we have to limit the amount of time outside for obvious reasons.
15 Things I Will Teach My Daughter
You guys, being a mama is PRESSURE. Can we be real about it for a second? I always wanted to be a mother, but I don’t think I really knew what that meant. There is this little human that is being formed by their interactions with you every single day. That is a lot of pressure… but it’s also such a privilege. I’m a chronic over thinking in general, so when it comes to motherhood it’s not any different.
5 Ways to Eliminate Distractions + Dominate Your Life
It’s Sunday. The day of rest. You’ve spent 9 straight hours on the couch binge watching Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix and eating your body weight in cookie dough. Just kidding. We are moms. The last time we sat down was to give birth, and even then someone was asking something of us. But despite this constant, “go, go, go” mentality we have, at the end of the day we still feel like we have so much left to do.
